KEURING RESULTS

Judging - Studbook Horses
Before the Australian Keuring the only studbook horse in the country
was the first premium star mare Isis.
Imported from the USA this lovely mare is sired by the 17hh approved
stallion Pyt. Isis was imported to Australia
in foal to the stallion Melle. After her
arrival she gave birth to the filly Valkyrie.
Ten foal book mares that were eligible for elevation into the
studbook with premium or star ratings were presented to the KFPS. Four
of these mares were the older Australian bred mares from the original
imported stock. Marleen Petraa Friso and Alitske
Friso sired by Maurits Friso
and owned and bred by Dianne Hill were presented in Western Australia.
Both mares were accepted into the studbook with Alitske receiving a
third premium. In NSW the mare Paula Lyckle B's Femke
was accepted into the studbook but received no premium and in Victoria
Maria's Black Opal sired by Maurits Friso
was not judged due to lameness.
It is interesting to note that if these mares were born today they
would be B Book 1 registered as they do not have approved studbook
sires.
The imported horses faired much better, though sadly for Jenny
Secreve in Western Australia her imported mare Hester fan
Bokkum (Oltman x Ottie B) failed to make it into the
studbook at this time, due to problem with movement. The judges
however liked her conformation and praised the handler on her kind and
calm approach.
Great news in South Australia with the imported foal book mare Sanne-c
van de Wijdewormer (Remmelt x Famke-C van de Wijdewormer)
receiving a second premium star rating.
In NSW the imported foal book mare Renske fan 'e Olde
Hoek (Jakob x Ursel) also received a second premium star
rating. Carl Mitchell, a well-known international breeder of Briard
dogs, imported Renske from a small breeding farm called "Old
Corner Stables" owned by the Van der Veen family in Holland. Just
before the keuring, Renske was given a positive pregnancy test to the
KFPS studbook stallion Pike. Carl plans only to use frozen
semen from KFPS studbook stallions.
Alitske Friso
This lovely gray-faced lady was the first Friesian to be born in
Australia. At 19 years of age when presented to the KFPS judges she
demonstrated a movement and physique that belied her age. Alitske was
the only Australian bred foal book mare to receive a premium rating
when elevated to the studbook. She is a full sister to the Burrell's
stallion Dagho and is the dam of Wilhelm
and El Domino Classique.
In Victoria another imported mare Ulrika
(Jochem x Geartruda) also received second premium star. Ulrika was
imported to Australia by Hans Maes for a client and was later sold to
Victoria. She is in foal to the KFPS studbook stallion Remmelt.
Another imported mare Kristine S (Oege x
Tietsje S) was accepted into the studbook but did not receive a
premium.
The champion of the Victorian Keuring was the lovely mare Paige
(Laes x Lemke) who received a second premium star rating. Paige is the
dream horse of International Friesian Breeders managed by Jim Burrell.
Jim travelled to the USA on many occasions to find a mare worthy of
his future breeding program and was very impressed by Paige and her
breeders Don & Melody Williams of "Thunder Mountain
Friesians" in Uplands, California. International Friesian
Breeders will be breeding Paige using only frozen semen from approved
KFPS stallions.
Sanne C was rated champion mare at the
National Keuring with Paige, Renske fan 'e Olde Hoek and Ulrika
following in that order.
The only foal book filly under three years to be shown was Valkyrie
(Melle x Isis). She was given a third premium.
